At the foot of sacred Mt. Iwaki, the 1,200-year-old Iwakiyama Shrine is the spiritual heart of the Tsugaru region. Its ornately carved gates and halls, rich with colour and detail, have earned it the nickname the ‘Nikko of Oku’ — the Nikko of the far north.
