Lake Towada is a double volcanic crater lake of astonishing clarity, sitting 320 m above sea level on the Aomori–Akita border. The lakeside ‘Maidens’ statue, a 50-minute sightseeing cruise, and some of Japan’s finest mid-October foliage make it the natural climax of a Towada–Oirase trip.
