The Oirase Stream is a designated National Scenic Treasure — 14 km of pristine forest gorge threaded by a rushing mountain stream and dotted with named waterfalls. The trail between Yakeyama and Nenokuchi is one of Japan’s most celebrated nature walks, reaching its peak in late-October foliage.

Tips
You don’t have to walk all 14 km — the Ishigedo–Nenokuchi section packs in the best waterfalls. Autumn weekends are busy, so start early.
