Chiba Prefecture surrounds much of greater Tokyo and serves three very different traveller needs: Tokyo Disney Resort (the most-visited theme park in Asia), Narita Airport hotels (for transit and early-departure stays), and the Boso Peninsula (a dramatic Pacific coastline with fishing villages, flower fields, and surf beaches largely unknown to foreign visitors).
Best Areas to Stay
Maihama (Tokyo Disney Resort)
The Disney area — Maihama Station is the gateway to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. Both official Disney Hotels and independent alternatives in the area. Best for: families with children, Disney fans.
Narita / Narita Airport
Convenient overnight options for early departures or late arrivals at Narita International Airport. Narita city has more character than the airport itself — the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple complex is impressive. Best for: transit travellers, early flights.
Boso Peninsula — Tateyama & Minamiboso
The southern tip of Chiba jutting into the Pacific — warm winters, tropical-looking flora (camellias, rape flowers in January-February), and fresh seafood. Slower-paced and genuinely un-touristy. Best for: couples, nature seekers, off-the-beaten-path Japan.
Tokyo Disney Resort Hotels

A well-reviewed independent option just outside the Disney zone — a short monorail ride to the parks. Significantly cheaper than the official Disney Hotels while retaining the area’s convenience. ¥15,000–¥25,000/night.
Narita Airport Hotels

Henn na Hotel Narita Airport
Japan’s famous “staffed by robots” hotel chain has a Narita branch — dinosaur robot check-in, facial recognition room entry, robot concierge. A novelty experience. ¥8,000–¥12,000/night.
Boso Peninsula Stays
Ohana no Yado, Minamiboso
A small ryokan on the Pacific-facing southern Boso coast with stunning ocean views from the outdoor bath. Breakfast and dinner feature just-caught local fish — ama (female diver) harvested abalone, lobster, and seasonal sashimi. ¥20,000–¥35,000/pp. Very popular with Tokyo couples on weekend escapes.
Shirahama Ocean Resort
A surf-oriented resort hotel at Shirahama beach — one of Chiba’s best beginner surf breaks. Surf lessons, board rental, beach BBQ, and rooms with direct ocean views. ¥12,000–¥22,000/night. Best season: May to October.
Practical Tips
- Disney Hotel booking: Official Disney Hotels sell out within minutes of the 6-month advance booking window opening. Set an alarm and book the instant reservations open.
- Boso Peninsula access: From Tokyo Station, limited express trains reach Tateyama (southern Boso) in 2 hours. A rental car dramatically expands access to the peninsula’s best coastal spots.
- Naritasan Temple + hotel combo: Narita city’s Shinshoji Temple complex is a pleasant half-day. Staying in Narita city (rather than the airport itself) at a traditional inn lets you explore the temple approach (Omotesando) in the evening after tourists depart.
- Chiba’s hidden flower season: January to February on the Boso Peninsula sees hillsides of yellow rape flowers (nanohana) and red-and-white poppy fields — virtually no foreign tourists. A ryokan stay in Minamiboso during this window is one of the best-value winter Japan experiences available.
