The Aizu Autumn Festival is one of Tohoku’s largest historical re-enactment events, held each September in Aizu-Wakamatsu. Its centrepiece is a spectacular samurai procession — hundreds of participants in authentic-style armour, including a portrayal of feudal lord Gamo Ujisato, march through the city streets toward Tsurugajo Castle, alongside performances honouring the tragic Byakkotai cadets. The three-day festival also features traditional music, dance and food stalls throughout the historic city centre.
