Azuma-Kofuji (‘Little Mt. Fuji of Azuma’) is a strikingly symmetrical volcanic cone in the Azuma mountain range, its perfectly circular crater accessible via an easy walking trail around the rim, taking most visitors under an hour. Reached from a car park just off the scenic Bandai-Azuma Skyline drive, it’s one of the most accessible volcanic craters in Japan, offering sweeping views over the surrounding highlands and, on clear days, as far as Mount Bandai and Lake Inawashiro.
