Shiroi Koibito Park, in western Sapporo, is a delightful chocolate-themed park created by Ishiya, the confectioner behind ‘Shiroi Koibito’ (‘White Lover’) — the famous white-chocolate-filled langue de chat cookies that are one of Hokkaido’s most iconic souvenirs. Designed like a whimsical European fantasy village, the park centres on a charming, storybook-style building complete with a clock tower, gardens and rose-filled grounds. Visitors can tour parts of the factory to watch the famous cookies being made, learn about the history of chocolate in a small museum, and take part in hands-on workshops to make their own giant Shiroi Koibito cookie or other sweets. There are also cafés serving elaborate chocolate desserts and parfaits, sweet shops, seasonal illuminations and, at times, a small entertainment show. Especially magical for families and sweet-lovers, and pretty year-round (with gardens in summer and illuminations in winter), Shiroi Koibito Park is a fun and tasty Sapporo outing.
