Mt. Iwate, known as ‘Nambu Fuji’ for its near-perfect cone, is Iwate’s iconic 2,038 m stratovolcano and a symbol of the prefecture. The summer hiking season (July–October) offers crater-rim walks with sweeping views across the Kitakami basin; the popular Umagaeshi trail reaches the summit in about 4–5 hours.
