Goshikidai is a broad lava plateau rising between Takamatsu and Sakaide on the Kagawa coast, its name (‘five-colour heights’) referring to five hills. A scenic road crosses the plateau, linking viewpoints, walking trails, a planetarium and quiet woodland, with sweeping panoramas over the Seto Inland Sea and its islands. From its western edge there are especially fine views of the great Seto Ohashi bridge striding across the water toward Honshu, magnificent at sunset and when lit at night. Cooler and greener than the coast below, the plateau is a pleasant spot for a scenic drive, a picnic or a gentle walk, and a good complement to nearby Yashima. It offers some of the best sea views around Takamatsu away from the crowds.
