Cape Muroto, at the eastern tip of Kochi, is a UNESCO Global Geopark where you can see the earth being made: this is a coast of rapidly uplifting land, where rock once formed deep beneath the sea has been thrust up to form dramatic shores of folded strata, wave-cut platforms and jagged formations. A walking trail and boardwalks lead among the rocks and subtropical plants, with information on the remarkable geology, while the warm Pacific offshore is rich with marine life. Visitors come to dive and surf its clear waters, and to join boat trips for dolphin and whale watching, spotting dolphins year-round and whales in season. Wild, elemental and scientifically fascinating, it is one of Kochi’s great capes.
