Onagawa is one of Tohoku’s most striking recovery stories — a fishing port devastated in 2011 that rebuilt not just its infrastructure but its entire town plan, creating a pedestrian-first centre with a modern seafood market, boutique shops and public art leading straight to the harbour. The market sells some of Miyagi’s freshest catch, including saury, salmon and the region’s famous silver salmon farmed in the bay.

Tips
