Karuizawa is at its busiest and most popular in summer, when its cool highland climate draws crowds escaping the city heat, so book accommodation ahead if visiting then. Renting a bicycle is one of the nicest ways to explore the town’s forested paths and spread-out attractions, which are more pleasant to cover on two wheels than on foot.
