Kokusai-dori (“International Street”) is Naha’s bustling main thoroughfare — a roughly 1.6 km stretch lined with souvenir shops, restaurants, izakaya, cafés and street performers. Rebuilt in the years after WWII and nicknamed the “Miracle Mile,” it’s the liveliest place in Okinawa to shop for local crafts and snacks, sample Okinawan cuisine, and feel the island’s easygoing energy. Dip into the covered market arcades just off the main drag for a more local, atmospheric experience.

Shopping & souvenirs
Kokusai-dori is Okinawa’s souvenir hub:
- Local crafts: Ryukyu glass, yachimun pottery, bingata textiles, shisa (lion-dog) figures.
- Okinawan snacks: chinsuko biscuits, beni-imo (purple sweet potato) treats, sea-salt sweets, awamori and Orion beer goods.
- Street food & quirky shops: taco rice, Okinawan ice cream (Blue Seal), tropical fruit, and offbeat stores.
Markets & side streets
The real character is just off the main street:
- Makishi Public Market: a covered market of fish, meat and produce — pick fresh seafood and have it cooked upstairs.
- Arcade side streets (Heiwa-dori, Mutsumi-dori): atmospheric covered shopping lanes full of small local shops.
