Tennoji Park spreads beneath the towers of Abeno Harukas, a large and varied green space at the junction of the Tennoji and Shinsekai districts. Its jewel is Keitakuen, a circular strolling garden designed in the early twentieth century around a central pond, once the private garden of the Sumitomo family and a masterpiece of the period. The park also holds Osaka’s zoo, the city art museum and, at its northern edge, a modern lawn plaza lined with cafes and lit in the evening — making it a place equally suited to garden lovers, families and anyone wanting to sit down between sights.

Tips
Keitakuen is small, cheap and often nearly empty — a lovely 20-minute stroll that most visitors to busy Tennoji miss, so don’t skip it for the sake of the free areas. Check its Monday closure, combine the park with Harukas above and Shinsekai next door for a full southern-Osaka afternoon, and note the lawn plaza is at its best lit up in the evening.
