The Iya Valley, deep in the mountains of western Tokushima, is one of the three most secluded valleys in Japan, a dramatic landscape of plunging gorges, forested peaks and mist, where the emerald-green Yoshino River has carved spectacular canyons over aeons. Its scenic heart is Oboke Gorge, where the river runs between sheer, sculpted rock walls of pale marbled stone.
