One of the most popular things to do at the Tottori Sand Dunes is to ride a camel across the sand — a nod to the dunes' desert-like character and one of the few places in Japan you can do it. Operators near the main dune entrance offer short guided rides on Bactrian (two-humped) camels, led on foot by a handler, as well as photo sessions where you sit on a camel against the backdrop of the dunes and sea.
