The Uradome Coast, just east of the Tottori Sand Dunes, is one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sea of Japan shore and part of the San’in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark. Wave and weather have carved the granite into white cliffs, arches, sea caves, sea-stacks and dozens of pine-topped islets standing in water so clear it looks tropical, shading from emerald in the shallows to deep blue. A cliff-top walking trail links a series of viewpoints and small beaches along the shore, and in the warmer months sightseeing boats and sea-kayak tours thread between the rocks and into the caves.

Tips
Do the cliff-top walking trail for the free viewpoints, and take a sightseeing boat or sea kayak in summer to get in among the rocks and caves, which is where the coast is at its best. The clear water is superb for swimming and snorkelling in season; come on a calm, clear day, as rough seas cancel the boats and cloud dulls the famous colour.
