The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a spectacular mountain-crossing transport route through the Northern Japan Alps, linking Toyama and Nagano prefectures via a chain of cable cars, ropeways, a trolleybus and highland buses that together climb over 2,400 metres above sea level. The route passes dramatic alpine scenery, including the famous Snow Corridor walls, and in winter and spring the surrounding slopes around Murodo also offer skiing and snowboarding for visitors wanting to combine alpine transport with time on the mountain itself.

Getting There
- By train + cable car: from Toyama Station to Tateyama Station, then the alpine route begins.
- By car: park at Tateyama Station or the Nagano-side terminus, as private cars cannot cross the route itself.
Tips
The route is one-way transport infrastructure, not a single ticket — plan your itinerary and buy tickets for each connecting leg, or a through-ticket covering the whole route. Trip timing matters: the snow walls are tallest in April–May, while skiing is best earlier in the season before spring opening.
