The Oita City Summer Festival held in August culminates in a dramatic fireworks display over Oita Bay, with over 8,000 shells launched in timed sequences. The festival includes a yosakoi dance competition with hundreds of teams from across Kyushu, a night market along the waterfront, and traditional bon odori dancing in the streets.
